I started my “how to make money online” and online business website in June of this year.
On paper, that sounds like plenty of time to build something big—after all, we’re now at the end of the year in December. But in reality, my life has been intense, and I have not had the time or stability to properly and aggressively build my website the way I wanted.
Two tactics I love to employ in anything I do are:
- Clear strategy
- A lot of work
But lately, real life has been winning more rounds than I’d like to admit. While I have felt like I was a dog chasing his tail for the last 6 months. I got it! I am fixing my focus and Homepage. Let me explain.
A New Site With No Clear Signal
If you look at my website right now, you might get a little confused.
The crazy part? The site has actually been thoroughly planned out. My vision is crystal clear in my head. I know what I want it to become: a place where people learn how to make money online, build an affiliate marketing business, and plug into tools and training like Wealthy Affiliate and apps like GetUpside.
But I haven’t executed that plan consistently.
If Google were a person, I imagine it sending its spiders to crawl my little corner of the web and saying:
“Okay… He’s talking about digital cameras, and affiliate marketing, and artificial intelligence, and robots, and cash-back apps, and Black Friday sales… but what is this website really about?”
And honestly? Google would be right to be confused.
My Website Honey Bun (And How I’ve Been Neglecting Her)
I am fully aware of this problem—and I’m fixing it as we speak.
Here’s the truth:
My website is still very new, and I have been neglecting her. In my mind, I’ve always said, “I’ll get back to you, I promise. I haven’t forgotten you.”
So I gave my site a pet name: my honey bun.
I’d go off to work and whisper, “I’ll be back, honey bun.”
I’d be out and about, texting her in my mind:
“Thinking about you, honey bun. I’m making content right now, saving it in my email so I can upload it into your lovely database later.”
That really gets her excited.
But the truth?
Many days I didn’t come home and upload that content. I let her down more than I would like to admit. There is so much content still sitting in notebooks, emails, and drafts instead of being live on the site.
She’s a great girl, though. She has stayed by my side through the thin days:
- No site visitors.
- No search engine traffic.
- No referrals.
- No sales—yet.
But lately, she’s starting to feel a little better about herself.
Over the last 8 days, she has been getting more impressions in Google Search Console. For the first time, when she goes out into the digital world, people are at least starting to notice her.
“Daddy still loves you, honey.”
And to prove it, I’ve uploaded:
- Around 5 posts in the last 4 days
- About 10 posts in the last two weeks
We’re tracking, baby.
We are red hot.
Redoing My Homepage: Problem → Solution → Steps
My first serious step to help Google understand what my site is about was to redo my homepage.
I realized I wasn’t clear enough about:
- What problem I help people solve
- What solution or opportunity I’m offering
- How someone can actually get started
I needed to clearly show:
- The Problem:
People don’t have a clear way to make money online. They’re stuck only being consumers. - The Solution:
Learn how to build an online business and make money online with tools and training like Wealthy Affiliate, cash-back apps, and affiliate offers. - The Steps:
A path from problem to solution, laid out in simple stages. - Clear Calls to Action:
Buttons and links that say, “Here’s where to start. Here’s how to join. Here’s how to learn.”
So before Black Friday, I went back through my homepage and made some important changes. I tightened the message, focused on making money online with affiliate marketing, and highlighted the path I want visitors to take.
And I’ve got to say:
I love my new homepage.
It finally gives a clear vision of what I want to accomplish for the site visitor.
- They can feel the need:
That they might not have a way to make money online yet, and are stuck only as consumers. - They can see the solution:
Learning how to make money online with Wealthy Affiliate and other tools I share.
Where I’m Focusing Next
Over the next week, my focus is on:
- Categories & tags:
Cleaning up my structure so posts are grouped in a way that makes sense to humans and Google. - Images:
Adding helpful, branded images that support my content instead of just filling space. - Social media pages:
Actually sharing my content so people can find it beyond just search engines.
On top of that, my latest push has been sharing about the GetUpside app—a simple way to introduce people to monetization and cash-back while also giving my site some clear topical focus.
H2: From Confusion to Clarity
So here’s where I’m at on Day 1 of this Online Business Journal:
- My website is still new and a little messy.
- My life has been wild, and I let that slow down my execution.
- Google has been confused about what my site is really about.
- But I’m now actively:
- Refocusing my niche,
- Redoing my homepage,
- Posting consistently,
- And sending Google a clearer signal.
This Journal is where I’ll keep it real.
I’ll tell you where I’m winning and where I’m struggling, what I’m fixing, and what I’m learning.
